Lahammer was named one of the "Best Capitol Reporters in America" by the Washington Post\, "Best TV Reporter" by Minnesota Monthly and "Best Newscaster" by City Pages Magazine. Mary's trademark has been getting politicians to open up and trust her. She has produced a variety of documentaries and programs on topics such as global trade missions\, Minnesota history and farm to table cooking.
